Wooden walkway flooring is most suitable for decorating a garden or backyard. It is the tree, coupled with garden greenery, that can create a warm atmosphere of country comfort.

The nice thing is that wood, as a texture, can be applied in different styles of landscape design. After all, the tracks are possible

• lay out from round saw cuts laid between stones (naturgarden style),
• equip in the form of a boardwalk (country style, modern),
• deepen a thick beam into the ground or into bulk paths (for a garden with Japanese notes),
• and from thinner to make an exquisite pavement of paths for landscape in a modern style.

Like any other material, wood has its pros and cons.

Let’s start with the last ones:

• alas, not all wood is durable enough (later in the article, the most optimal breeds for paving will be considered);
• getting wet in the rain makes the wooden coating rather slippery (how to get around this «trouble» also read on).

The most reliable and durable larch wood. It is the only conifer that is most resistant to moisture. Moreover, from contact with water, larch wood only grows stronger. But the price of this lumber is also considerable, especially in regions remote from the places where this tree grows.

And then in terms of strength are deciduous trees. Officially, the oak holds the palm, but knowledgeable people claim that mulberry and white locust are not inferior to it in terms of “longevity” (about 20 years in extreme conditions).

Alder and aspen also have a sufficient «safety margin».

The most popular breed among builders is pine. Alas, it is quite loose, and even uneven density. In open air, pine boards will last no more than 6 years. But the benefits of progress in the form of chemical means will help you significantly extend this period.

Option one: indelible antiseptic. It is indelible — otherwise it will not give the desired effect, so carefully read the inscription on the container with the chemical agent.

Option two: waterproofing treatment. She is coated with logs (the part that is in contact with the ground), on which lies the board or the lower part of the cuts.

Option three: boiling drying oil. Logs or cuts are immersed in it. The method is quite ancient, proven, but requires extreme caution, since drying oil is highly flammable and, in a boiling state, can severely burn the skin of the hands. Wood impregnated in this way is able to withstand moisture and fungus for many years.

To perform this coating option, the tree trunk is sawn into circles of thicknessnoah 6 -10 cm. The bark must be cleaned off, the wood is treated with chemical protection.

Saw cuts are laid in a pre-prepared trench in any sequence, but always on top of the drainage layer (sand, gravel). The more moisture-resistant the soil, the thicker the drainage (from 3 to 10 cm).

The gaps between the cuts are covered with crushed stone screenings, sand or a mixture of soil and sand (for sowing lawn grass).

A gravel embankment and tree cuts implanted into it look absolutely natural in the landscape.

If you want to speed up the process of wood darkening, first treat it with a solution of copper sulfate, then with the rest of the chemical protection.

Eh, the performers of this path obviously «regretted» the pebbles for backfilling 🙂 But otherwise everything is stylish…

The basis of the boardwalk for the tracks is wooden beams (logs). They are placed parallel to each other, and boards are stuffed on top. The lower part and sidewalls of the lag are treated with hydroprotection. But if a drainage layer of crushed stone is poured under the path, then you can get by with an ordinary indelible antiseptic, which is many times cheaper.

IMPORTANT: since the surface of the boards is smooth and becomes quite slippery during rain, it is necessary to ensure the fastest outflow of water. To do this, gaps of 0.5 — 1 cm are left between the boards.

The photo shows that a metal profile was used as a log. Quite reasonable and durable.

As you can see, wooden flooring can be arranged in the form of bridges on columnar supports.

TRACKS FROM BAR

If the beam is immersed in the ground, then its cross section must be at least 100 x 100 (150, 200) mm. this cover will last a long time.

For Art Nouveau timber flooring, a timber with a section of 30 x 30, 40 x 40 or 50 x 50 mm is chosen.

This is quite enough to create a durable and highly decorative coating. The gaps between the bars are left 10-25 mm wide, but not more than half the thickness of the bar.

A thin beam is laid on logs of the same or greater thickness. The impatient ones prefer fastening with self-tapping screws, while the more meticulous prefer furniture pins. Holes are drilled in the logs and beams and a wooden pin is driven into it.

Everything is made of timber: both curbs, and inserts on embankments, and the flooring itself.
