There is such a thing as «bird tourism». People come to different parts of the world only to observe the behavior of birds in not the most comfortable conditions, sitting on the grass with binoculars. And they pay a lot of money for it.
And you have the opportunity to do this without leaving your home and without even leaving a comfortable chair. Suffice it to recall such a cute attribute of a regular garden as a birdbath. And even if your garden is not so regular :), on the contrary, it is very landscape, a nice bowl of water will make it even more attractive. It will become a kind of interactive highlight of the landscape.
A bird bath is a simple element, but still dictates its own rules.
First, the bowl should be shallow (literally a sparrow knee-deep — no deeper than 7 cm) and wide (so that there is where to turn around for a bird family — at least 60 cm in diameter).
Second, the bowl is placed on a pedestal at least a meter high. They do this so that cats and dogs cannot hunt for feathered guests.
Thirdly, if you know approximately how many birds settled on your site, then the number of baths is calculated according to the calculation formula: one for 20 birds.
Well, in the case when your guests are stray (in every sense), then one is enough, not far from a large tree.
And also, I recommend putting this cute attribute in a place where you can easily watch the feathered guests, remaining unnoticed: not far from the gazebo, benches, opposite the window.
And if you guessed right with the place and safety, then your bathing place will not be empty, regularly broadcasting your personal Discovery, accompanied by bird chirps and splashing water.
By the way, the birdbath can be the very point de vueto which the compositional axis of view is directed.
As for the material of manufacture, drinking baths are made of metal, stone, concrete and even wood. In iron water, it will quickly overheat, therefore it is better to install this in shading.
CONTENT RULES
Water in the drinker should always be clean, change at least once a week.
The bottom and walls of the bowl during the change of water are checked for the presence of green plaque from microalgae. It is necessary to get rid of it, the sunnier the place, the more intense the greening and evaporation of water.
That is why it is better to place the bath in partial shade and throw a sprig of lavender into the water (this is a natural antiseptic).
For the winter, it is better to remove the drinker indoors or under a canopy — so it will last longer.
So that the birds do not become your competitors for the harvest, they choose a place for a bath not in an orchard, they hang feeders nearby, and it is advisable to plant trees along the boundaries of the site, whose fruits are a delicacy for birds: viburnum, mountain ash.
